City of Lauderdale Lakes Coronavirus 30 Day Plan

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the landscape of life as we know it and Lauderdale Lakes is positioned to adapt and execute efficiently and effectively on behalf of the residents, businesses, and visitors of our community. 

On Thursday, March 12, 2020, Mayor Hazelle Rogers, signed a “State of Emergency” declaration in the midst of the coronavirus developments and scheduled a Special Meeting, which was convened on Tuesday, March 17, 2020. The City Manager, his executive team, BSO Police and BSO Fire outlined recommendations to the legislative body, resulting in unanimous support of Resolutions 2020-020 and 2020-021 which was later adopted by the Mayor and Commission in response to the dynamic nature of this ongoing pandemic. The following updates resulted in an outcome of that meeting:

All commission workshops, commission meetings, Board meetings & CRA meetings

  • Canceled until the end of April 2020

City Administration Offices closed until further notice

  • Updates and information provided to the public via the city’s website, social media and by calling 954-535-2700
  • City staff will be on call to handle critical assignments related to City Hall
  • Key staff will work from home

Community Redevelopment Agency

  • Business development classes and programs are canceled for the next 60 days

Development Services

  • Code Compliance, Building and Planning & Zoning are on a reduced schedule
  • Building inspections for commercial construction, life, health, and safety issues only

Parks & Human Services

  • Park facilities are closed; park-related activities/rentals are canceled (patrons will be refunded)
  • Senior Center and Alzheimer’s Center are closed effective March 17, 2020
  • Meals on Wheels will deliver meals to the homes of the senior participants
  • The community bus is still running pending notification from Broward County otherwise
  • Senior transportation will be running on an as-needed basis

Public Works

  • Reduced schedule to ensure critical services are being provided
  • Staff will be coordinating deep cleaning and disinfecting of all city facilities

Mayor’s 60 Day Health Challenge

  • All activities canceled

Florida Medical Center is the only hospital in Lauderdale Lakes and an existing partner with the city. Jeff Welch – CEO, Florida Medical Center, stated:  “We have set up a tent to triage patients outside the ED entrance and we are fully supported by a dedicated task force of physicians, nurses, infection prevention experts, pharmacist and laboratory technologist to promote the effective and safe management of any local outbreak of COVID-19 if the situation arises.”
