
Every person engaging in or managing any business, profession or occupation within the city, prior to entering in or upon any such business, profession or occupation or any commercial activity relating thereto, and any person who maintains a permanent business location or branch office within the city for the privilege of engaging in or managing any business within the city, shall, as a prerequisite condition to the commencing of such business, profession or occupation or commercial activity relating thereto, acquire from the city the business tax receipt” Article II, Section 82-31, City of Lauderdale Lakes Code of Ordinances.
Currently, there are more than 500 active business tax receipts in the City of Lauderdale Lakes. Business tax receipts are renewed on an annual basis for all businesses located in the City, including authorized home-based businesses. Business owners planning to operate in the city must apply for a business tax receipt prior to conducting business.
To avoid late penalties, business tax receipts must be renewed by September 30th of each year. A delinquency penalty of 10% is added for renewals in the month of October, plus an additional 5% penalty for each month of delinquency thereafter.
Any person who engages in or manages any business, occupation, or profession without obtaining a local business tax receipt may be subject to a $250.00 penalty, plus a 25% penalty of the business tax receipt fee, including the business tax receipt due and any other penalty provided by the law or in the City Code.
