Local Government Academy (LGA)

The Local Government Academy (LGA) is a free six-week program developed and organized by the City of Lauderdale Lakes to educate its residents and business owners on the local government processes.  We provide an inside look at department functions and operations of the City of Lauderdale Lakes and encourage active involvement in the community. The 6 session program is held once a year.

FAQ 1: WHAT IS LOCAL GOVERNMENT ACADEMY(LGA)?

The LGA is a free six-week program developed and organized by the City of Lauderdale Lakes to educate its residents about city government.

FAQ 2: WHY WAS THE PROGRAM CREATED?

The program was created to provide residents and business owners’ an inside look at department functions and operations of the City of Lauderdale Lakes and encourage active involvement in the community.

FAQ 3: WHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN THE PROGRAM?

The program is held once a year and is open to the City’s residents and business owners. Two open seats are available for senior high school students with an interest in government. 

FAQ 4: WHEN DOES THE PROGRAM START?

The program consist of six (6) consecutive sessions on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. beginning February 8, 2023, and ending on March 22, 2023. Graduation is on March 28, 2023. Dinner will be served at each session. Registration begins on December 15, 2022 The Application deadline is January 15, 2023.  Register online or stop by City Hall for a form.

FAQ 7: WHERE ARE THE CLASSES HELD?

Classes are generally held at City Hall but are sometimes held at other city facilities. Information on the classes will be in each participant’s acceptance letter and a detailed agenda of each class will be provided.

FAQ 8: MAY I BRING A GUEST OR RELATIVE TO THESE CLASSES?

Due to space limitations participants may not bring any guests to classes; however, they are encouraged to bring guests to their graduation ceremony.
